Organizations have a larger footprint of endpoints and larger attack surface than ever before. This includes not only smartphones, but also IoT devices such as sensors or HVAC, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, wearable devices such as smartwatches, webcams or other peripheral equipment, tablets, and network components.

Many organizations still follow policies and procedures that provide device assurance only for laptops and desktops. To enable a secure environment that is aligned with a Zero Trust approach, security leaders need to develop a device security strategy that meets business needs and enables effective risk management.

According to Duo, “Under Zero Trust, devices are checked at every access

request to ensure that they meet security parameters and aren’t introducing risk. Devices should also be monitored over time, to detect potential threats or anomalous behavior.” Organizations must implement policies to identify misconfigurations and atypical behavior as devices connect and disconnect from their network.

In a recent survey, Stratascale found that 50% of
readers are somewhat confident with their
current device management posture, while
20% are neutral, 20% are very confident,
and 10% are somewhat unconfident.

We also found that 56% of readers’ organizations plan to improve their device assurance capabilities within the next six months to one year, while 22% plan to make an improvement within the next one to six months or (22%) not at all, respectively.
