When we say “shared cloud vision,” we mean agreeing on the goals of the cloud migration. To help start conversations, Microsoft has a helpful chart of sample motivations driving organizations to the cloud.
In its workshop to define a cloud vision, Info-Tech Research Group recommends defining organizational goals, then identifying and mapping specific cloud drivers to those goals. Later work involves defining cloud outcomes and how to measure cloud success.
A few target outcomes for this phase: Project teams should be able to clearly document the agreed-upon goals. They should also be able to communicate them widely throughout the organization. If everyone involved in the project (including the organization’s key stakeholders) can’t clearly articulate why the organization is moving to the cloud and what success looks like, you have not succeeded at the first phase and will likely face difficulties ahead.
